On Display Easy Prey
The Junior wardens have been assisting with the recent on display easy prey campaign to raise peoples awareness of thefts from motor vehicles and to ensure our area is a much tougher target for criminals.
Firestation Tour
The Steyning Junior Wardens were given a tour of Steyning fire station on Monday 19th October. we had the opportunity to learn about the equipment on the fire engine and to use a high pressure fire hose!!! without getting to wet!!!!
Many thanks to Richard Poole of Steyning Fire station for showing us around.
SAFeR Steyning Day
October 3rd was SAFeR Steyning day with the Junior Wardens joined by PCSO Charlie Whittaker and Patron of SAFeR Steyning Sally Gunnell, did their bit to help the Steyning Area First Responders by starting their new campaign to ensure people across the area have their house names and numbers easily visible. the junior wardens looked at houses and completed a letter congratulating the resident or advising them that they need to make their sign more visible for emergency services and responders to find them which could save vital minutes in an emergency situation.
Pictures in Steyning Junior Warden Picture Gallery !
The Junior Wardens covered three more roads in Steyning on Monday the 5th October and will be watching for good and bad examples while out and about on their sessions.
We would urge everbody to check their signs / numbers to see that they are easily visible from the roadside, clear of bushes and still visible in the dark.
New Jr Wardens
Steynings new junior wardens will be hitting the streets of Steyning from the 21st September, we are hoping that some of last years jr wardens will be coming back to help on some sessions and would like to say a big thank you to last years group who worked very hard and were great fun.
Chessington
The junior wardens went to Chessington this month to mark the end of their time as junior wardens, although we hope some will come back to help us with the new recruits. It was a great day out and we would like to thank all of them for their hard work around Steyning during the last year.
On Display Easy Prey.
The Steyning Junior wardens were joined by Steynings PCSO Charlotte Whittaker and Horsham Street Scene Wardens Jayne Jeffrey and Karen Grisley at our last meeting. The junior wardens helped with one of the current warden campaigns targeting theft from vehicles in the area.
The junior wardens split into groups and went round Steyning looking for items left in vehicles which could tempt thieves, vehicle locations and details were taken along with what items were on display. These details were all confirmed at the time and vehicle owners will receive a letter from the crime reduction unit explaining that valuable items were clearly on display in their vehicle and reminding them of precautions to take to minimise the chances of them becoming victims of theft from their vehicle.
The Junior Wardens were very enthusiastic about the task probably because it meant they could be nosey in peoples cars. We hope this campaign will help our area to become an even harder target for people involved in this type of criminal activity whilst raising awareness amongst the young people and vehicle owners of the importance of removing valuables when leaving a vehicle.
Firestation Garden
The Steyning junior wardens have built a small garden at the Steyning Firestation and planted up the pots at the station. This garden replaces the old oil drums which were past their sell by date which the young people emptied and cleared at a previous session. The junior wardens worked very hard to get everything planted and tidy for the open day as part of the Steyning fair on 25th May. This is a thank you to the fire crew at Steyning who let us use the station as a base and on rainy days and gave us a tour of the station and a chance to have a go with some of the equipment.
Speed Indicator Device & Dog Fouling Awareness
The latest task for the Steyning Junior Wardens was to slow down speeding drivers on the Shooting Fields. The wardens clapped for every driver that got a SID smiley face, and gave speeding drivers the thumbs down. They also checked that people were wearing their seatbelts and not talking on mobile phones. This week they also delivered anti dog fouling leaflets to residents, encouraging them to contact the wardens if they see anyone leaving behind their dog mess. They also gave out bags to passing dog walkers.
OH YES IT IS - OH NO IT ISN'T !!!
The Steyning junior wardens will be joining the Upper Beeding junior wardens to go to the Capitol theatre, Horsham to see Peter Pan on the 11th December! this is a well deserved reward for all they're hard work in their community since the scheme began earlier this year.
Football Crazy!
We were lucky enough to go to watch Brighton and Hove Albion v Huddersfield !! despite it being very cold and Brighton losing 1-0 ( including having a penalty saved!) everyone had a good day out - many thanks to Brighton and Hove Albion for the reduced cost tickets and for the pre match entertainment ending in everyone having seagull face painting from the clowns balloon seagulls and even some lessons in juggling !!!
